What is Goal Setting?

Goal setting is your compass.

If you go on a trip you need a map. If you are cooking a holiday meal for the first time you will need a recipe.  Goal setting is the same thing. It is you roadmap to your future success. Goals help you navigate through life’s journey.

With goal setting you will learn about yourself. What do you like, what is important and what areas do you need to work on to improve. Goal setting will teach you how to take responsibility for your efforts or lack thereof. Goal setting will show you how to take a large, seemingly impossible task and break it down into very doable parts. Goal setting will show you the importance of taking action on your dreams.

Goal setting will help you turn your dreams into action.

The Goal Setting for Students is a life skills, character education book that shows students how to use the goal setting principles in the classroom. Each chapter is designed to facilitate meaningful discussions on this important life skills issue.

“The Goal Setting for Students content is one that inspires confidence in students, teachers, and parents…..The concepts presented in this content are an essential part of developing responsible, caring, and respectful young people.”
-
Liz Gibbons, Executive Director, Character Plus

The book shows students a new way to positively look at their teachers and homework, quizzes, tests, and term papers.

For example: In the discussion section of Chapter # 5, entitled Measuring Your Progress, the book states:

This may shock you, but teachers have goals for what they what to teach you. These goals are called lesson plans. Teachers write lesson plans for a day, a week or a month. How do you think teachers can measure their progress toward reaching their goals for your class?  (Hint: Tests are one example.)

In all eight chapters of this unique goal setting book we are positively reinforcing the message that education is essential in today’s world, and that parents and teachers want to help students succeed in school and in life. And, we get students talking about how they can take a more active part in their education.

The books chapters include:  What is Success?, Goal Setting, Samples and Practice, Investing Yourself, Measuring Your Progress, Meeting the Challenge, How to Get Started and Summary.
